The Accordion A2 Build is a configuration of the Accordion test platform — the same chassis, control system, and software stack as the Lite and Plus bundles, assembled to a specification matched to a single test bench. Where the Lite and Plus ship with fixed module sets, the Build is assembled from the standard Accordion module library to fit a specific application: power profile, channel count, communication interfaces, instrumentation, and form-factor constraints.

What it does

The A2 chassis is software-defined. Every channel is addressable by name; every protocol bus and every supply rail is configured at runtime. Modules are slot-mapped into the chassis (top-side SO-DIMM and N-TOP, front-panel M.2, dedicated communication TOP), and a custom configuration stays consistent with the Accordion naming convention so existing Pilot workspaces, TestStand sequences, and Python or C# scripts continue to work as the bench evolves.

A custom build is appropriate when the bundled configurations do not fit — for example, when the test programme needs more programmable rails than the Plus carries, an instrument the standard bundles do not include (precision ADC/DAC, battery simulation, audio), or a specific mix of channel types the Lite cannot provide. The chassis is the same in every case; only the populated modules differ.

Modules are picked from the Accordion module catalog. Examples by purpose:

• Programmable power: M.2 PSU module (ESH10000533) — dual channel, 0–20 V, 0–10 A, 60 W combined, PMBus telemetry. Mini-PSU (ESH10000662) for lower-power rails.

A custom A2 is a fully fledged Accordion node — reachable on the network by hostname or IP, addressable through Accordion’s standard channel-naming convention, and controllable through the Accordion API — Python, C#, TestStand, LabVIEW, or REST. Lifetime licenses for Accordion Pilot and Accordion Shell are typically included; bundled software depends on the configuration agreed during specification.

The Accordion A2 Plus is a fully-loaded configuration of the Accordion test platform — a single test node that powers, exercises, communicates with, and monitors a DUT without composing the configuration from individual modules. What it does

On the signal side, the A2 Plus presents 96 user channels via six standard 20-pin IDC connectors. Each channel can be reconfigured at runtime — analog input, analog output, or pseudo-digital with programmable VL/VH thresholds. Open-drain and floating-output behaviour are emulated by setting thresholds out of range, useful for external pull-ups and mixed-signal nodes. Resolution is bounded by the AD5592R devices on the MPIO-96: 12-bit ADC and DAC, 0–5 V typical in 2× mode.

On the power side, two fully independent DC outputs are configured and read entirely in software via PMBus. Each channel covers 0–20 V and 0–10 A; the module enforces a 60 W combined ceiling and supports overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, temperature, and startup-timing protection. Telemetry — output voltage, current, power, input voltage, input current, and temperature — is available per channel as discrete read-only registers. Outputs are disabled at boot and require explicit software enable.

On the communication side, the A2 Plus exposes two software-controlled I²C buses (each with programmable rail and switchable pull-ups), an RS232 UART, SPI, and JTAG. SPI and JTAG share a single programmable rail and so cannot be powered at different voltages simultaneously — sequence them in software if both are needed. Two PWM fan headers with tachometer feedback and eight RGB status LEDs (mapped to bus, power, fan, and ADC/IO indicators) round out the operator-visible side.

What it does

The A2 Lite presents 96 user signals to a fixture via six standard 20-pin IDC ribbon connectors. Each signal corresponds to one channel on the bundled MPIO-96 module, and each channel can be reconfigured at runtime — analog input, analog output, or pseudo-digital with programmable VL/VH thresholds. Open-drain and floating-output behaviour are emulated by setting the thresholds out of range, which is useful when interfacing with external pull-ups or mixed-signal nodes.

Channel resolution and range are bounded by the AD5592R devices on the MPIO-96: 12-bit ADC and DAC, 0–5 V typical in 2× mode. Per-pin limits at the IDC connectors are 5 V and 2 A; the +5 V and +12–20 V rails on each connector are individually thermistor-fused at 0.25 A. The acquisition path supports synchronized multi-channel sampling, exposed through a single NumericResult channel.

The A2 Lite is intentionally a single-purpose configuration: 96 reconfigurable channels, no PSU module, no PoE, no audio. Mixed-instrument benches use the full Accordion A2 with additional modules.
