The Tone Audio Module is a line-level audio source and analyzer that plugs into the Accordion test platform as an SO-DIMM module. It generates test tones on two DAC channels and measures frequency, RMS, peak-to-peak, THD, and SNR on four switched ADC inputs — all locally, with only commands and scalar results crossing the backplane. Audio test steps stay deterministic without consuming Accordion’s data path.

What it does

Audio generation runs continuously once configured. Set the waveform, frequency, and per-channel gain on either DAC; the module produces the tone without further sample streaming from the host. The two output channels are independent.

Measurement runs on the four multiplexed ADC inputs, organized as 4 × 2 with programmable input gain. Sampling, DSP, and metric extraction execute on the module, so the host receives processed scalars — frequency, V_rms, V_pp, THD, SNR — rather than raw sample streams. Test step time stays predictable, and 96 kSps × 24-bit data never has to cross the Accordion backplane.

Trade-offs are explicit. All external interfaces are line level; the internal I²S and DSP paths are not exposed externally. Sample rate and bit depth are fixed in hardware. Applications that need speaker-level drive or raw sample capture sit outside this module’s scope.

How it fits into Accordion

The module operates as a server in a client–server pattern over UART: Accordion issues configuration, control, and result-retrieval commands; the module exposes audio generation and measurement as high-level operations. Raw audio never leaves the module, so backplane usage stays minimal regardless of how often a test sequence calls into it.

Six GPIO pins are available for peripheral control around the audio path — switching loads, muting paths, asserting test points — under the same UART control surface, so a complete audio test step can be expressed without reaching outside the module.

The 6x IDC N-TOP Breakout Module is an N-TOP module for the Accordion and Accordion A2 test systems that mounts on top of the chassis and exposes the full 96-line DATA bus on six standard 20-pin IDC connectors. The module is fully passive — signals route 1:1 from the system DATA bus to the IDC pins, with no active components and no signal conditioning in the path. It is the simplest way to get fixture cabling onto the Accordion DATA bus, and it lets you design your fixture around stock 20-pin ribbon cables.

What it does

Each of the six IDC connectors exposes 16 DATA lines: J1 carries DATA[0–15], J2 carries DATA[16–31], and so on through J6 with DATA[80–95]. Pin 1 of every connector carries a fused 5 V rail, pin 2 carries a fused 12–20 V rail (both 0.25 A thermistor fuses), and the remaining pins are ground returns and DATA. That is enough to drive an LED, a small relay, or a level shifter directly off the ribbon cable, without dragging a separate supply into the fixture.

Because the module is passive, there is no driver, no firmware, and no calibration to manage. Channel access happens against whichever active module is sourcing the signal — an MPIO-96, a Precision ADC/DAC, or another DATA-bus module sitting in the corresponding bottom slot — addressed by its logical channel name through the standard Accordion API. The breakout is just wire, and that is the point.

The N-TOP slot the breakout is in determines which SO-DIMM on the top board it reads: N1 → T1, N2 → T2, N3 → T3, N4 → A1. The mapping is fixed, so the physical pin a given channel lands on is fully predictable from the slot assignment — useful when you are debugging a fixture or generating wiring diagrams from a channel map.

Trade-off to flag: this is a passive breakout. If the fixture needs signal conditioning, isolation, level shifting beyond what the auxiliary rails support, or active multiplexing, that work has to happen elsewhere — on the source module or in the fixture itself.

How it fits into Accordion

The breakout drops into any free N-TOP slot (N1–N4) on the Accordion or Accordion A2 top board. Insertion is keyed, so it only seats one way; like all N-TOP modules, swap with the system powered down. Once installed, the 96 DATA lines from the underlying SO-DIMM are presented directly on J1–J6 in a fixed, documented mapping. From there, standard 20-pin IDC ribbon cables connect the breakout to the test fixture.

The Mini-PSU is a two-channel programmable buck-boost power supply for the Accordion test system, built as an N-Top module that mounts directly on top of the Accordion frame. Each channel delivers an independent 0–24 V output at up to 1.5 A with its own programmable current limit, and runs entirely over I²C — voltage setpoint, current limit, enable, PWM, and read-back of actual output voltage and current all share the same bus. No per-channel analog control lines to wire into the fixture.

What it does

The buck-boost topology — built around an LT3942 4-switch controller per channel running at ~980 kHz — lets the Mini-PSU regulate output voltages both above and below the input rail. That removes the usual headroom margin you have to budget for a buck-only design, and means the same module can power a 3.3 V DUT and a 20 V auxiliary rail off the same input supply.

Each channel has its own programmable current limit, set via DAC. Constant-current mode engages automatically when the load reaches the configured limit, with current-limit linearity better than ±0.1 % of full scale (1.5 A). That makes the Mini-PSU usable as a programmable current source as well as a voltage source — handy for biasing, soft-starting capacitive loads, or simulating a current-limited supply for the DUT.

Output voltage and output current are read back through the same I²C interface (V_MON via a resistor divider into an on-board ADC, I_SMON via the LT3942’s buffered current monitor). That is fast enough to use inside a closed-loop control routine or a pass/fail check in an automated test sequence, without bolting a separate DMM into the fixture.

Protection is built in: input UVLO at 16.7 V rising / 14.7 V falling, input OVLO at 29.6 V rising / 28.7 V falling, output OVP at 29.4 V, and a soft-start ramp of ~1.76 ms on enable. Faults keep the converter running rather than latching off, so a transient input dip will not trip the fixture into a manual reset.

Trade-off to flag: at 1.5 A per channel the Mini-PSU is sized for low-to-mid-power DUTs and auxiliary rails, not for powering a high-current load. Use a different supply for tens of amps of work.

How it fits into Accordion

The Mini-PSU mounts on top of the Accordion test system as an N-Top module, freeing the slots inside the chassis for other modules. It is fully controlled over the I²C bus exposed across the platform — both channels and all auxiliary control (per-channel active-low enable, per-channel PWM input, voltage/current monitor read-back) live on that single bus, with two on-board devices: an AD5593R 8-channel DAC/ADC for the analog setpoints and monitors, and a PI4IOE5V6416 GPIO expander at I²C address 0x20 for the digital control lines.

Output is broken out on a 4-pin Phoenix connector (J2): VOUT1, GND, GND, VOUT2 — a layout that keeps the two channels isolated from each other on the wiring side and gives a return pin between the two outputs to keep coupling low.

The Battery Simulator is a galvanically isolated, programmable power module that emulates battery behaviour in production and validation test. It delivers 0–10 V at up to 1 A as a bidirectional source/sink, with current limiting, on-board voltage and current measurement, and a hard isolation barrier between the host supply and the DUT-facing output. It plugs into Accordion test systems over the Expand Interface, so it can sit next to the DUT instead of in the chassis — and you don’t need to add isolation around it in the fixture.

What it does

The output stage is a programmable 0–10 V regulated rail with a configurable current limit up to 1 A. Constant-current mode engages automatically when the limit is reached, so the simulator behaves like a real battery driven into its own current limit rather than collapsing or fault-tripping. Bidirectional operation means the same channel can both source current into the DUT and sink current back from it — useful when testing devices that inject current into the battery node (charge circuits, regen paths, supercapacitor banks).

Eight programmable DAC/ADC channels (0–5 V) sit on the isolated side and break out on a 2×6 header, alongside 5 V and 12 V rails. They give you a place to drive an ID-pin, set a thermistor voltage to fake a battery temperature, or read a status signal — all on the DUT side of the isolation barrier, so the auxiliary signals stay galvanically separated from the host system the same way the main output does.

Output voltage, source current, and sink current are measured on board and read back over I²C, fast enough to use in a closed-loop control routine or a pass/fail check inside an automated test sequence. Overcurrent events trip an automatic shutdown; the host clears the fault and re-enables the output.

Trade-off to flag: at 0–10 V and 1 A the simulator covers single-cell and multi-cell Li-ion / NiMH packs and most handheld and IoT devices, but it is not built for high-current battery work. If you need tens of amps or higher voltages, this module is not the right tool.

How it fits into Accordion

The Battery Simulator connects to Accordion over the Expand Interface — a single M8 cable carrying input supply (VIN/GND) and a differential I²C Long Range link. That lets the simulator sit close to the DUT rather than bolted to the test chassis, which keeps the high-current battery wiring short and isolates the host system electrically.

Two things to know about the Expand Interface up front. First, I²C Long Range is a differential variant of I²C that embeds the clock in the data signal — it is not compatible with standard SDA/SCL, so you cannot drop a normal I²C device on this bus. Second, the Battery Simulator is fully software-controlled over that link: voltage, current limit, output enable, the eight auxiliary DAC/ADC channels, and all measurement read-back happen through the same I²C interface.

The Precision ADC/DAC Module is a high-resolution analog I/O card for Accordion test systems, combining twelve 24-bit ADC channels and eight 16-bit DAC channels in a single slot. It is built for the points in a test sequence where accuracy matters more than channel count — voltage measurements that must hold their absolute calibration, stimulus that has to be quiet and stable, and biasing that needs to land on the millivolt. The module is integrated as a standard Accordion module and is fully software-controlled.

What it does

The ADC side runs on the ADS124S08, giving 24-bit resolution across twelve single-ended channels with a configurable ±2.625 V bipolar or 0–AVDD unipolar range. The DAC side uses the AD5675R — an 8-channel 16-bit converter referenced to an internal 2.5 V reference, with output spans of 0–2.5 V (gain = 1) or 0–5 V (gain = 2). Calibration gain and offset are stored on the module per channel and applied automatically in hardware, so a module that has been calibrated keeps its calibration when moved between Accordion frames.

For higher-rate work, ADC channels can be put in numeric result mode: configurable sample count and rate, multi-channel synchronized capture, and optional on-module data reduction (min, max, average, standard deviation). Results come back as a Base64 payload through the standard channel API, which keeps the wire format compact for long captures.

ADC and DAC channels can also operate as pseudo-digital I/O — define V_L and V_H thresholds and the channel reports logic state with built-in hysteresis (values between V_L and V_H retain the previous state). On a DAC channel, the output is driven to V_H or V_L for logic HIGH/LOW. Useful for occasional logic-level interfacing without dedicating a separate digital module.

Trade-off to flag: at up to 4 kSPS per ADC, this is precision-class measurement, not waveform capture. For higher channel counts of pseudo-digital I/O or faster sampling, pair this module with the MPIO-96 SPI Module.

How it fits into Accordion

Channels are exposed through the standard Accordion naming scheme: {ModuleIndex}.ESH10000590.{ChannelName}, where ChannelName is one of ADC00–ADC11, DAC00–DAC07, or CALIBRATION. ADC channel 5 on a module at slot 0 is referenced in software as 0.ESH10000590.ADC05 — the same syntax used across every Accordion module.

The CALIBRATION channel exposes the full calibration table for read and write as Base64, keyed against the module’s product ID, revision, and serial number. Calibration data persists across resets and is applied automatically at boot. Misconfiguration — unknown channel name, wrong direction, V_H below V_L, output to a disabled channel — returns an explicit error rather than silent undefined behaviour.

The Communication Module is the central coordination point between your host PC and every peripheral module in an Accordion test system. It exposes two I²C channels, UART, SPI, and JTAG with per-bus programmable voltages, controls fans and status LEDs, and acquires synchronized analogue data — all through one API. Installed as the top module of the stack, it is the piece that makes an Accordion behave as a single software-defined instrument.

What it does

The module is, first, a protocol hub. Two I²C channels run independently with software-controlled enables, software-controlled 1 kΩ pull-ups to a programmable VI2C, and named channels you reference directly from a test step. UART (RS232), SPI, and JTAG sit alongside, each with their own programmable voltage rail. SPI and JTAG share a single rail (SPI_JTAG_VOUT) — a deliberate trade-off that keeps the connector compact and is the right choice for the vast majority of fixtures, but worth knowing if you need both buses at different DUT voltages at the same time.

Beyond the buses, the module handles the supporting infrastructure of a test fixture. Four 12-bit analogue outputs and four MPIO channels cover sensor stimulus, rail monitoring, leakage measurement, and pseudo-digital I/O with VL/VH thresholds. Two PWM fan controllers with tachometer feedback close the loop on thermal management. Eight named RGB LEDs (I2C1, I2C2, UART, SPI, JTAG, POWER, FAN, ADCIO) give the operator immediate visual feedback on the line — useful when something fails on a Friday afternoon and the test report is two scrolls away.

For high-speed work, the module performs synchronized multi-channel numeric acquisition and returns the result set as base64-encoded data. That is what makes leakage testing, rail-stability checks, and short sensor characterizations practical from the same module that is also driving the buses.

How it fits into Accordion

The Communication Module is the top module of an Accordion stack and uses ModuleIndex 15 by convention. Every channel follows the standard Accordion naming pattern 15.ESH10000359.<ChannelName> — for example 15.ESH10000359.I2C1_VOUT or 15.ESH10000359.SPI_EN. The recommended I²C startup sequence is consistent across both channels: set VOUT, enable the pull-ups, enable the channel, then transact.

Because every interface, voltage, and fan setting is software-defined, the same physical fixture can be reconfigured between products without rewiring. That is the point of Accordion, and the Communication Module is what makes it work in practice.

The PSU M.2 Module is a programmable dual-channel DC/DC supply that plugs into the Accordion test system through the standard M.2 connector. It replaces a stack of external bench supplies with one module that is controlled, monitored, and calibrated entirely from your test software — no jumpers, no trimmers, no manual intervention.

What it does

Both channels are fully independent. Each one has its own setpoint, its own load profile, and its own protection thresholds, and both are driven from the same test script. Margin testing happens in code: write a new VOUT_COMMAND, enable the channel, read back the telemetry — all from the test framework.

Per-channel telemetry covers output voltage, current, and power, plus input voltage and current and module temperature, sampled at the resolution the LTC3889 provides. The same module that powers the device under test also gives you the diagnostic data when something goes wrong.

Protection is configurable per channel for over- and undervoltage, overcurrent, over- and undertemperature, and startup timing (TON_MAX). Warning and fault thresholds are set in software, so the test sequence — not the operator — decides how to react to a misbehaving DUT.

The PSU M.2 Module is designed to sit inside an Accordion test system and is controlled through the Accordion API from C#, Python, or TestStand. What it does

The module integrates a dedicated PSE controller that handles PoE detection, classification, and protection without host-side polling. Real-time current and power are measured on each pair group (2 × 0–3 A) and reported per channel and as a port total. Min/max tracking captures inrush and transient events between explicit TELEMETRY.CLEAR_PEAKS calls, so the same module covers inrush characterisation and steady-state validation in one fixture.

Two RGB LEDs (POLARITY, VIN STATUS) give immediate visual feedback for input validity, PoE state, and fault conditions — useful when the same fixture is shared across operators on a production line.
